We spent a very limited amount of time in the valley itself, as it was a tourist nightmare. A photo walk hosted by the Ansel Adams Gallery, a stroll over to Yosemite Falls, an over-priced bite to eat at the lodge then finally escaping the crowds and heading for Sentinel Dome.

Stick around long enough and all the photographers waiting for sunset light on Half Dome will finally leave, the kids with flashlights will finally get herded into the cars and you'll be left with you, the wife and a pair of L.A. democrats and their German friends discussing philosophy. Badly. But that's also when the stars come out. Wait a little longer and the philosophers will go for beer.
